HP Chromebook X2

Update 6/1/2018 at 5:07 P.M. EST: It looks like Best Buy is jumping the gun! If you visit BestBuy.com, you’ll likely see that you can pick up the HP Chromebook X2 today, almost a week ahead of schedule. It’s not clear if the company is shipping out the units early as well, but if you had your eye on one of these, a quick trip to your local Best Buy will get you one in time to play with it this weekend.

Original Article: Back in April, we got our first look at the HP Chromebook x2, a convertible 2-in-1 Chromebook laptop with a detachable screen. It is kind of like a Chrome OS version of the Microsoft Surface Book, complete with a stylus.

Now it looks like the pre-orders for the HP Chromebook x2 are opening up, as a Best Buy listing appeared today that lets you call dibs on your new Chromebook.

The x2 will set you back $599, which is pretty expensive for a Chromebook. But this is a seriously nice-looking machine, and one of the very first Chrome OS products that will give you a tablet experience. And the keyboard dock and stylus are included in the price!

Editor’s Pick

The HP Chromebook x2 comes with a 12.3-inch tablet with an IPS WLED touchscreen panel with a 2,400 x 1,600 resolution. Inside, it’s running an Intel Core m3 processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 615, backed by 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage (expandable via an SD card slot). That’s plenty of power for Chrome OS.

The x2 also features Bang & Olufsen-branded dual speakers, two USB-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a front-facing 5MP “Wide Vision” Camera, and a 13 MP rear camera. It’s also pretty light, weighing just 0.73kg on its own and 1.39kg with the dock attached.

If you pre-order the device from Best Buy, you’ll be able to pick it up in-store on June 7. If you choose to have it shipped, it will ship on June 7 and arrive at your home sometime later.
