Company hires a new senior-level employee away from its biggest competitor, and that would be big news — except the company doesn’t want it to be news just yet, says the IT pilot fish responsible for onboarding the new hire on the QT.
“The instructions from the VP who hired him are to keep this absolutely confidential, both externally and internally, until further notice,” fish says.
“So when I set up the new guy, I don’t include him in any distribution lists.
“And I hide him from being published in the company address book.
“And I don’t have our administrative person add him to the company phone list.
“The next day, the VP calls. He wants to know why he can’t find this new guy’s contact information anywhere in our system…”
