Fender is one of the most well-known guitar makers, and now it is slowly moving into the digital age. The company has just launched its free Fender Tune app for Android in the Google Play Store, after previously launching the app on iOS several months ago.

Fender Tune has been designed to be used by both beginning players as well as experienced veterans to help them tune their instruments. Fender claims the app’s DSP algorithm and technology can detect low frequency pitches, such as the ones that come when the low E string is strummed, faster compared to other mobile guitar tuning apps.

There are a few different modes to choose from in the app, too. Beginners might want to start with the Auto Tune mode, which guides the player into getting the right pitch after the app hears a note. It also offers a string-by-string diagram. More experienced players can use Manual Mode which lets them tap a virtual string on a guitar in the app so they can get an idea for what a proper note sounds like. The app also has a number of preset tunings available.

In addition, the Fender Tune app includes even more help for the beginning guitar player. It offers tips on how to understand different tunings, how to properly use the guitar pick, tips on holding a particular note, finding the difference between sharp and flat notes, and even help on how guitarists can train their ear to get the best tuning setup for their guitar.

This is apparently just the first in a planned series of mobile apps from Fender, and we could definitely see the company launching apps to help users get better sound from their amps, or possibly even some Fender-branded connected speakers and headphones for mobile devices.
