Baseball is America’s past time and it’s one of the most popular sports in the world. It’s easy to play, fun to watch, and the equipment is relatively inexpensive. As a result, baseball is a sport played by both professionals and hobbyists alike. There are also baseball games on mobile. They don’t have the caliber of console games, but they can still be fun to kill a few minutes. Here are the best baseball games currently available on Android! Please note, sports in general are taken fairly lightly on the mobile platform. Most games are freemium and that sucks, but it’s better than nothing.

9 Innings 2016
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
9 Innings is one of the biggest baseball games that’s released every year. It features updated rosters each season, the actual MLB schedule, and more. As a result, it’s one of the more in-depth baseball games available. It works on a card-collecting mechanic and the players you collect can be added to your team. On the field, you’ll be able to play actual baseball a little bit. It is a freemium game which isn’t ideal, but it’s worth a shot to see if you like it.

9 Innings Manager
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
9 Innings Manager is made by the same company that does 9 Innings 2016, except this one allows you to play as the GM. It’s much more focused on simulation and most of the game mechanics focus around that. You’ll recruit players, make trades, help players achieve their maximum potential, and hopefully win some baseball games. It’s a lot more in-depth than most and it’s a great game for those who like the numbers side of baseball. It’s a freemium game which means you can expect some annoyance, but it’s not bad.

Baseball Kings
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
Baseball Kings is a pretty standard baseball game. Consequently, it’s easy to play and easier to get into. You’ll be given control over the pitcher and you can throw a variety of pitches. If the ball gets hit, the game will try to do the most logical thing on its own. Baseball Kings also has short play sessions which makes it great for commercial breaks and bathroom breaks. It’s another freemium game, which sucks, but there’s a lot of content here for you to enjoy.

Baseball Superstars
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
Baseball Superstars may be branded as a game from 2013, but it’s been regularly updated at least through mid 2016. This game features a more fictional baseball experience with various quests and missions to complete. There are pitching and batting mechanics that allow you to hit and pitch as per the norm, but there isn’t quite as much control as one would typically want. There is also an online multiplayer component. It’s highly rated by most players, but it is a freemium game so do beware of that.

Flick Home Run
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
Flick Home Run is a simple baseball game if you want to waste a few minutes. It’s essentially a home run contest with some whacky graphics and simple controls. Flick Home Run features five total game modes that are unlocked based on your overall score. It also has a level up system, simple mechanics (you just swipe your finger), and it’s very accessible for kids and adults of most ages. It’s a freemium game, but it’s not as bad as most and it’s a great way to spend a commercial break.

Homerun Battle 2

Homerun Battle 2 is developed by the same developers who do the 9 Innings series of games. It’s a home run contest style game where you try to hit as many home runs as you can. It features customizable characters, all kinds of fictional settings, and various game modes to keep things interesting. MLB Perfect Inning 16
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
MLB Perfect Inning 16 comes from the same developer studio that made Baseball Superstars. It features a more typical baseball experience than other baseball games along with an updated roster and schedule to reflect the 2016 MLB season. Much like 9 Innings 2016, this game has card collecting mechanics and the cards you collect are used as the players on your team. The game has above average controls, online play, and some decent graphics. It’s still a freemium game with the typical pitfalls, but it’s better than most.

RBI Baseball
[Price: $4.99]
RBI Baseball is another game published officially by MLB and this is also the only decent non-freemium baseball game. It features over 1000 players, and unlike most games, doesn’t require you to collect cards in order to play as certain teams or as certain players. The controls have a steep learning curve which has been the core frustration of many players so far. It takes practice, but it is possible to learn how to do it. The only caveat is that there hasn’t been an RBI Baseball game released for 2016, so you’ll have to try the 2015 version or the 2014 version depending on which one you think is better. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s still better than most baseball games.

Tap Sports Baseball 2016
[Price: Free with in-app purchases]
Last on our list is Tap Sports Baseball 2016. It’s much like 9 Innings and MLB Perfect Inning in that it’s a card-collecting game with some baseball mechanics built in. It features “one touch” controls which are meant for simplicity, but ultimately come off as a little too simplistic. That said, it’s an enjoyable time killer that has trading mechanics, a little bit of strategy, and online multiplayer. It’s pretty good for what it is, even if it is a freemium game.
