It’s no secret that Sony is struggling in the smartphone market, at least outside of its home country of Japan. This is especially true in North America, where Sony tends to do very little in the way of marketing its devices and is often very late in releasing them. Case in point, the Sony Xperia Z5 was announced in September of 2015 but didn’t arrive stateside until around February of this year. As you can imagine sales haven’t been that stellar in the US, but that’s actually a good thing for consumers looking for a good deal.
Right now, the unlocked GSM-compatible Xperia Z5 is being offered for just $499 on Amazon, $100 off its asking price. All three color options are available: gold, white, and black. While maybe not as exciting as the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, HTC 10, or even the LG G5 — the Z5 is still a solidly spec’d device, especially at under $500.
As a recap, the Xperia Z5 is powered by a Snapdragon 810 with 3GB RAM. Other specs include a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 32GB storage, a microSD slot, a 23MP main cam, 5MP front cam, and a 2900 mAh battery. There’s also Android Lollipop with Sony’s customizations pre-installed, with an optional upgrade to Marshmallow ready as well.
What do you think, is the Z5 worth $500 in light of the arrival of other 2016 flagships? Share your thoughts down in the comments.
