IT consultant pilot fish is on a long-term gig with a company that’s losing money — and he can make a good guess what the topic will be when an all-hands meeting is called.
“They announced that layoffs would be coming, but that nothing was set,” says fish. “Details would be announced later, before the actual layoffs.
“One of the employees asked, ‘What about the contractors? Will they be let go?’ Management promised: ‘No employee will be laid off while a contractor is here.’
“So I went to my client manager to discuss a transition plan — handing over my responsibilities, cross-training, and arranging dates with the consulting firm.
“His response: ‘Right. That doesn’t apply to you.’
