Galaxy S7 Edge home button

Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) is now available for the Exynos 8890-powered Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. If I lost you there, this simply means there is now a custom recovery available for the international variants of the S7 and S7 Edge.

Why might you want a custom recovery on your shiny new phone, you might ask? Because a custom recovery is one part of the trifecta of modifications: root and an unlocked bootloader being the other two.

Once you’ve got the trio for your phone you can create Nandroid backups of your device, remove bloatware, flash custom ROMs and kernels and make any other number of modifications to your phone with the security of an escape route if everything goes to crap.

You can get what you need via the relevant TWRP pages for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to read up on the flashing procedure (with and without root) as well as any notes you might need to know.

Will you root your Galaxy S7? What’s the first thing you’ll do?
