Rumor mill says that the division where this IT pilot fish works is about to be hit with a big layoff — and the details even include the date the ax will fall.

“We had two main facilities in different states, about a three-hour drive apart,” says fish. “I was at one location and my two peers and our manager were at the other.

“I got to the office on the appointed day, and saw that my two peers were logged on and that my boss was not. Hmm. A quick instant message, and I learned my boss was not at the other office.

“So I was not surprised when she appeared at my location. Before she could even say hello, I let her know that I had plenty to keep me busy during the notice period — unless she wanted to walk me out.”
