Back at the start of December 2015, HTC announced that it had finished testing its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for unlocked One M8 handsets and that the update would be heading out to customers shortly. Fast forward to today and Marshmallow has finally made its way to Asian models of the HTC One M8.

HTC One M8 Asia Marshmallow updateThe ROM version number is 6.14.707.1, which is a little different to the version released by HTC at the end of last year, suggesting a number of bug fixes and changes have been made on the way to Asia. The update weighs in at a hefty 1.14GB, so the download might take a while and the installation time is estimated at 60 minutes.

The update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow means that HTC One M8 customers will be able to make use of more definable app permissions, Doze battery optimizations, and Now on Tap for additional display contextualised information. Not to mention the security patches that HTC will have implemented.

HTC is continuing to push Android Marshmallow updates to its flagship handsets this year. Additional regions and some carrier branded models of the One M8 are expected to see similar updates arrive this month or next.

If you haven’t received an OTA update notification yet, now might be a good time to force a manual check through the settings menu.
