If there is a mobile device that looks to make gaming a serious cornerstone of its utility, it’s certainly the NVIDIA Shield. Now owners of this high-end tablet can take home all the slashy, fighty action of Metal Gear Rising: Revengance with a $14.99 download from the Google Play Store.

The game marks a divergence from the typical Metal Gear series. The player takes control of Raiden, rather than Solid Snake, and for the most part Metal Gear Rising: Revengance is an action title rather than a stealth game. Instead of infiltrating enemy bases with stealth and technological acumen, Raiden hacks his way through the main campaign (and three included DLC missions) wielding only his katana and a slew of disposable cyborg body parts.

It’s actually pretty impressive to see a game this demanding on a mobile platform, and the NVIDIA SHIELD Partners who ported Metal Gear Rising: Revengance to tablet and Android TV devices insist that it offers a “faithful, complete version of the experience” that will soak up at least 5 gigs of your storage space.

So far, reviews seem to be positive for this PC/Console port to Android. The game did well enough in its original manifestation, although some took semantic issue with its title. I mean, Revengance? Seriously? What kind of a portmanteau is that? Aren’t “revenge” and “vengeance” kind of the same thing anyway? What kind of nuance of meaning is gained from combining them? “Turducken” at least makes sense because it’s expressing that you’re cramming together a turkey, a duck, and a chicken into some unholy parody of a matryoshka doll in entree form, but Revengance? Christ!

Anyway, Metal Gear Rising: Retributaliation or whatever is available in the Google Play Store for $14.99. It has full Shield controller support, if not the support of your high school English teacher.  Give it a whirl, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
