It’s a few decades ago, and this company’s accounting department is just getting up to speed with PCs and spreadsheets, according to a pilot fish on the scene.

“Fred, one of the more eager accountants, set up a personal spreadsheet and password protected it — and then he went on vacation,” says fish.

“While working on the monthly closing, another accountant tried to open that spreadsheet. When the message ‘Obviously, you are not my friend Fred’ popped up, a major fuming event ensued, followed by phone calls.

“We finally learned that the file the accountant needed wasn’t password protected after all. He was actually trying to open the wrong spreadsheet.”
