Apple has formally shut down Topsy, the social analytics company that it acquired in late 2013. Before Apple’s acquisition, the company analyzed aggregated Twitter data, breaking it down in real-time. The shutdown was quietly announced in a post to Topsy’s Twitter account.

Heading to the Topsy homepage now redirects you to an Apple support document about using the search feature on your iPhone or iPad. While this is great if you want to know more about iOS search, it’s not going to be a good source of information on Topsy.

Apple purchased Topsy for a reported $200 million. It has never been stated what Apple planned to do with the company’s technology. However, it could be anything from improving search on iOS to tracking engagement in Apple Music.
