With growing attention on the need to achieve proportional representation and equal treatment of minorities in the business world, Computerworld decided to provide a snapshot of where a few major Western countries stand in terms of their ethnic diversity in IT.

As expected, several minority groups remain significantly underrepresented, despite decades of efforts by governments, industry associations, and tech industry themselves to achieve more equal representation.

But the patterns differ across countries.

(Note: The definition of “Black” here includes native-born people of African ancestry as well as immigrants from Africa and the Caribbean. The definition of “Hispanic/Latinx” reflects people of any race whose ancestry is from Latin America, which typically offers a mix of indigenous and European groups. The definition of “white” refers to people of European ancestry, excluding Caucasians from outside Europe, such as in the Levant and central Asia.)
