Google Assistant is about to embark on mobile payments. A new Payment option has appeared in the Assistant settings on Pixel devices as part of a server-side change, so no Google app update required. It allows you to add your credit card information as well as your address, both of which are needed for the next big feature of Assistant — online payments.

Once you open the new Payment setting for Assistant, a tutorial pops up that will show you how to set up payment and delivery info for purchases. After the tutorial, you add your credit card info along with your address as well as choose additional devices, like the Google Home speaker, that can also access your financial information in order to pay for things. The service is not yet functional however.

Google will likely introduce the option of paying for products and services with the help of Assistant in the very near future. There’s currently no word on exactly when that might happen but it can’t be far away or Google would have just included the new Payments section in an app update later down the road. The new feature will make Assistant even better and more useful and just might simplify the way we place and pay for our orders online.
