The WhatsApp encryption effort is complete — that’s the message this week from the eponymous Facebook subsidiary. And it’s echoed by Open Whisper Systems, the good folks who brought you the Signal protocol, which WhatsApp now uses.

OWS is of course the merry gang run by Moxie Marlinspike (pictured), and it’s funded with millions of dollars of your money.

So the U.S. government can’t read WhatsApp messages, yet it funneled cash to make it happen? That’s gotta hurt.
