A Los Angeles hospital has had to pay ransomware hackers, to get its data back. It admitted shelling out around $17,000 in Bitcoin, after a week of failing to recover critical patient records, email, and so on.
In other words, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center failed at disaster-recovery (DR). Sounds like it either didn’t have any backups, or the restore didn’t actually work.
